« on: January 01, 2014, 12:23:27 PM »
Now you can pick up a non-contract Moto X for just $399. I paid $499 but still wouldn't budge off it...except to the Moto X2?
Really nice phone... ;)

Moto X Ordering and Shipping / Ordering from Moto Maker
« on: November 19, 2013, 09:22:29 AM »
Just finished ordering my Moto X for VZW on Moto Maker.

First order was cancelled because - I didn't think this was an issue - the billing address and shipping address were different. I can see why Motorola wants to keep some sneaky people who order a phone and have it shipped somewhere else on a bogus charge card, in my case I have a PO box as the shipping address and credit card was the billing address. <I'm not a sneaky person>

Second time ordering, I did almost the same thing! At least it showed up that way on the order page and that got cancelled.  I probably was a little bit frustrated and in a hurry as the Verizon $50 off was going to end soon so wanted to get that order in. My billing address was still different than the shipping address as I changed the ship to address to a physical address instead of my PO box.

So -third time's a charm- I decided to add a physical address to my credit card billing address as it only had a PO box for billings.
That worked! The order form showed BOTH shipping address and billing address to be the same (both real live addresses).

Ahhh...now the wait begins.  Hope this helps someone.

Digging around and turned up this little bit @ Barron's

The factory floor in Fort Worth is considered by Moto to be very state of the art. Each assembly line can switch over from making the stock black or white models of Moto X to the custom units with a flick of the switch that directs workers to pick the custom parts from the right bin — a system known in the trade as “pick to light,” because a bank of lights directs the worker where to reach for parts. It takes about 2 hours to assemble a custom phone, a Motorola employee told me. At the end of assembly, a computer system scans the assembled unit to make sure the colors and the stenciled message match exactly what the customer ordered.

This is kinda old but could have some bearing on those wanting to order online @ VZW...if true.

We don't have any corroboration for this from any of our secondary sources, but we have received some insider intel that may be important for Verizon customers who want to grab the Moto X. According to the info, the initial online order of the VZW Moto X will not come with Android 4.3 installed. Supposedly, Verizon plans to update the online ordered Moto X phones to the newer version of Android on September 4th.

To be clear, the retail store versions of this device will supposedly not have this problem and will actually already have Android 4.3 installed. This could mean that the brick-and-mortar retail Verizon stores won't even get the device until on or after September 4th, but it could also simply mean the Moto X phones which are ordered online are organized in a different batch which will not have the Android 4.3 update until later.

Moto X General Discussions / AnandTech Moto X Review

This is one of my favorite sites to see what's come up in the tech world and other blah-blah news. Brian Klug really digs in on this review of the Moto X so if you can get through on his take of "...now the question is how the device really stacks up to the competition" there will be lots of comparative charts and diagrams comparing the Moto X with other "top shelf" phones. Also what I found interesting is the call quality test sample.

Moto X General Discussions / Moto maker Returns
« on: August 23, 2013, 08:46:07 AM »
Here's something I didn't know. Californians have a 30 day return period opposed to the 14 day time frame for the other states if you don't like your custom phone upon arrival.

..from Mobileburn.com:

It's also important to note that Motorola guarantees satisfaction. If a Moto Maker device is created and doesn't meet the expectations when seen in person, Motorola will let customers return the device and start over. Californians have up to 30 days to return the device but anyone in any of the other 49 states has 14 days to make a return.

Hmmm...something other than black or white is looking better :o
